Scores On The Doors

Introduction
Have you ever wondered what Food Safety Inspectors find when they carry out a routine food hygiene inspection?
.
Oldham Scores on the Doors Scheme allows the public to view the hygiene rating of a food business following their latest food hygiene inspection. .
These businesses are given an easy to understand star rating that reflects the conditions found at the premises at the time of the routine food hygiene inspection. These star ratings can be viewed on this website and the scores range from 0 stars (very poor) to 5 stars (excellent).
.
All premises included have also been issued with certificates to voluntarily display on the premises.
.
Information held on this website
All food businesses that serve, prepare or sell food are inspected by qualified and authorised Environmental Health Officers and Enforcement Officers. Inspections are conducted in accordance with a Code of Practice which gives details of how these inspections are assessed in order to give the business an overall inspection rating. Businesses with high score ratings are then inspected more frequently because they present a higher risk.
Please note that the hygiene rating given to premises on this web site is based on the latest inspection carried out and as such represents the situation as found by the officer on the day of that inspection.
You should note that very low risk food premises such as sweet shops etc will not have a score as they are not as closely monitored and their checks do not involve a formal inspection.
You should also note that OMBC food safety section issues Safer Food Better Business Awards to premises that operate a food safety management system and these premises can be found on the OMBC website at Safer Food Better Business .
The food safety section wants to encourage healthier eating and issues Heartbeat Awards to food businesses which offer healthy options and these can be found on the OMBC website at Heartbeat Award .
.
How the Star Ratings are Calculated
During a food hygiene inspection scores are issued for 8 food hygiene factors.
However not all these factors are included to make up the overall star rating for Scores on the Doors. This site uses only the scores relating to three particular hygiene factors. These are:-.
- hygiene requirements - how hygienically the food is handled including temperature control;.
- structural requirements - the condition of the structure, cleanliness and layout of the premises;.
- confidence in management - the food business operators history of compliance with food hygiene law and evidence of a food safety management system. .
These three particular hygiene factors are under the direct control of the business and therefore more accurately reflect the way in which the business is managed and operated. For example you can see from the ratings that one factor relates to the service of high risk foods to vulnerable groups such as young children or the elderly .Obviously nurseries and care homes will always have a high score for this factor-no matter how clean and well managed their food operation. It would therefore be unfair to include this factor in their overall rating.
